The defining characteristic of the Pelagos FXD reference 25717N is its 42mm titanium case. Its "FXD" designation signifies the fixed strap bars, which are milled directly from the case body for structural integrity and eliminate spring-bar failure. Released in 2023, this black dial model is a modern interpretation of Tudor dive watches historically supplied to the US Navy. Unlike the preceding French Navy (MN) version which featured a bidirectional bezel for navigation, this reference is equipped with a conventional unidirectional ceramic bezel for dive timing. It operates on the COSC-certified Manufacture Calibre MT5602.
Conceived in 1926 by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, Tudor’s original mission was to offer the dependability of a Rolex at a more accessible price point, initially utilizing robust third-party movements within Rolex-supplied Oyster cases. The brand forged its own distinct identity through military adoption, most notably by the French Marine Nationale.
The modern era, heralded by the successful Black Bay collection, saw Tudor masterfully reinterpret this rich heritage for a modern audience. Their revival is strengthened by a strategic shift to produce calibres in-house, solidifying Tudor’s transition into a fully integrated watchmaker.
